Chargers get by Skins in OT 23-17

Sunday's performance over the Redskins, a thrilling 23-17 OT win in Washington should make it clear to the whole world that Ladanian Tomlinson, the Chargers' all pro running back is the best back in all of football.

Some may dispute it due to Shaun Alexander's stats in Seattle, but Alexander hasn't rushed for over 1,000 yards for five straight seasons like L.T. did on Sunday. He was the reason the Chargers were able to come back, down 10 points to the skins in the 4th quarter of Sunday's game and he had 3 scores including the game winner in OT.

It was a good thing the Chargers didn't have to rely on Nate Keading. The kid had already blown two field goals of over 40 yards in the game and almost cost San Diego the win. Now the Chargers sit at 7-4 and are only 2 games behind the Broncos in the West. Sunday Denver plays at K.C. and could make a claim towards winning the division title, or the Chiefs can make a stand.  A Denver loss coupled with a Chargers win over the Raiders could put both K.C. and S.D. only a game back of the division lead. However, the Chargers are still in the playoff hunt and must win most of their remaining games to get a wild card spot in t he likely event the Broncos walk away with the west.

Don't you just love November-December football??

Chargers drub Bills 48-10

How beautiful was it to watch the Chargers in their gorgeous powder blue uniforms drub the Buffalo Bills 48-10 on Sunday?
Drew Brees was having a field day, passing for four touchdowns and throwing for 339 yards against a Bills defense which seemed hapless and confused for most of the day. It's fun to see S.D. go up and down the field and score on almost every possession.
The only sour note was seeing Antonio Gates go down with an injury. Watching him writhe in pain on the field was a tortorous thing to watch, as the team has won three straight games, a lot of it due to Gates' stellar play. The Chargers aren't sure how long Gates will be out, but I am really hoping that it will be a very short period of time. On a day when the Bolts retired legendary receiver Lance Alworth's number, Keenan McCardell had 88 yards on six catches to push his career total to 10,320 yards, to pass Hall of Famer Lance Alworth (10,266) for 21st place on the all-time list.

How beautiful was it to shut up the Bills' runningback? Buffalo's Willis McGahee, who contends he's the NFL's best running back, was held to 39 yards on 10 carries. MaGahee obviously hasn't seen Ladanian Tolimson's numbers. The Chargers' running back would be leading the NFL in touchdowns scored, had the Chargers not been off due to their bye last week when Seattle's Shawn Alexander took the lead in that statisitical category. Tomlinson, generally considered to be the NFL's best back had 67 yards and caught 3 passes for 22 yards.

Chargers beat Jets 31-26, Enberg still a S.O.B.

Want any further evidence that s.o.b. Dick Enberg hates the Chargers?

I have plenty from today’s game in New York:

First shot of game: Curtis Martin, the all pro running back for the Jets runs down field,

Enberg: “He needs to have a big game for the Jets to win”

Second shot: A shot of Marty superimposed by his overall career record

Enberg: “Shottenheimer’s team has lost four games in the final quarter.”

Then talks about the Jets dangerous kick returner and about Vinny Testaverde and never once mentions San Diego except to mention their 4 losses.
The first negative comments vs the Jets come almost 5 minutes into the telecast and they are made by Dan Diordoff commenting on the fact they had been outscored 40-7 in the first half of games this season!
Enberg begins the Chargers’ first possession talking about the Jets defense (of course) and after the Jets stop Tomlinson on the first two plays Enberg is about to shoot his mouth about how Tomlinson hasn’t scored a TD since his record tying 18 and only 75 yards since and how Philly stuffed him, (never mind he has thrown more touchdowns (3) than the ENTIRE JETS TEAM THIS SEASON) Then L.T. breaks a long run to set up his first touchdown after a great play by Antonio Gates. Enberg has no choice but to shut his mouth about the Jets’ d (for now.)
After L.T. jukes out a Jets defender on his way to his second touchdown on a beautiful run, Enberg has to swallow his hate and utters a feebly, “Oh my” (his signature line) as the Chargers jump to a 14-0 score. Enberg can’t help but take another jab at the Chargers as he talks about L.T. and says, “Of course that’s Lawrence Taylor’s tag” as if to imply that L.T. isn’t worthy of the nickname, which is ludicrous because L.T. is as good an offensive player as Taylor was a defender.
After the Jets are driving for a score following a rookie mistake by Shawn Merriman, the Charger’s rookie defensive star, Enberg gets animated again and talks about how much the Jets need a score. The fans make some noise after Curtis Martin scores his 100th career touchdown and cut the lead to 14-7 but Tomlinson comes right back with his 3rd touchdown of the game, after a great reception by Keenan McCardell had given the Chargers the ball deep in the Jets’ territory. Would a 21-7 halftime lead be enough to shut Enberg up for good? Probably not, when they go to commercials he hardly ever says the score when San Diego is ahead, he just says stuff like, “Time out in the meadowlands.” Stupid jerk.
Early in the second half instead of praising San Diego’s defense after stopping the Jets from scoring inside the red zone and limiting them to a field goal, Enberg says: “18 yard field goals don’t please the coaches and they don’t please the fans.” Well they do if your team is forcing them jackass!
When the Jets get close on a TD to cut San Diego’s lead to 28-20 early in the 4th quarter, you can find no one more animated than the Chargers hating Enberg who has been silent most of the game but who doesn’t waste time extolling the heroics of the Jets’ 3ed string quarterback. I thought broadcasters were supposed to be neutral! Silly me. Well the Chargers hung on to win 31-26. It was scary at the end, but we got the “W.” Sour grapes Enberg you Bronco loving bitch!

Chargers beat KC 28-20

Sorry I'm a bit late posting this one, halloween kept me busy!

Chargers beat Kansas City Chiefs, 28-20

Gates opens the door for Chargers' win

Monday, October 31, 2005

By Bernie Wilson, The Associated Press

SAN DIEGO -- Antonio Gates showed why the San Diego Chargers think he's the best tight end in the NFL.

Gates caught three touchdown passes from Drew Brees and the Chargers also got a scoring pass from LaDainian Tomlinson in beating the AFC West rival Kansas City Chiefs, 28-20, yesterday.

Gates put the game out of reach with his third touchdown, when he caught a short pass at the 32, bulled through strong safety Sammy Knight and ran into the end zone for a 28-13 lead with 9:10 left.

"It's like LT. They are both Supermanesque," said Brees, who threw for 324 yards. "We see it in practice every day. Game day, it gets better. I'm lucky to have those two."

Gates had 10 catches for 145 yards, both career highs, and the three touchdown catches tied his career best. Last year, his 13 touchdown catches set an NFL record for tight ends.

He has six touchdowns in seven games. He missed the opener while finishing his three-game suspension for missing a team-imposed deadline for ending his training camp holdout.

Gates' big day for the Chargers (4-4) came against a team that features six-time Pro Bowler Tony Gonzalez.

"The guy on the other side is not too shabby," Brees said.

Gonzalez had seven catches for 97 yards and one score for the Chiefs (4-3).

"Any time we play against each other, he makes me elevate my game," Gates said. "That is just the competitive nature about me."

Brees completed 25 of 43 passes, with touchdown throws of 19, 20 and 35 yards to Gates. He also had one pass intercepted.

Kansas City's Priest Holmes got a mild concussion when hit by rookie linebacker Shawne Merriman midway through the third quarter and didn't return. Vermeil said Holmes will be OK.
